Personal History : Leon Keppler was born in the small city of Krefeld in 1924 as one of 4 children to Wilhelmine and Karl-Heinz Keppler, a war veteran who worked in the steel industry during the war but got killed during a british bomb raid in 1942.
Due to the nationalsocialistic upbringing by his parents, Keppler adopted their views and beliefs quickly and joined the Hitlerjugend at the age of 10.
Military History : His involvement and membership in the Hitlerjugend and later on, NSDAP led to the fact that Keppler got a recommendation for the Waffen-SS which led to him being put into the 2nd SS Panzer Division "Das Reich" as a Recruit.
